Second Half Surge Sparks Victory Over Seton Hill

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Millersville's offense came to life in the second half, scoring all three goals of the game in the final frame and topping the Griffins of Seton Hill 3-0 on Saturday evening.

The first half was controlled mostly by Millersville with Seton Hill trying to counter at any possible opportunity. The most dangerous scoring chance that the Griffins generated all game was in transition when Joe Tchimou took a shot from 12 yards out with no defenders between him and the goal. A diving Christopher Schneider made the incredible save in goal and kept Seton Hill off the board.

Millersville had several offensive threats late in the half. With eight minutes to go in the first frame freshman Bryan Werner sent a cross into the box from the right side. Forward William Taylor made a great back side run and beat the defense but the ball was just out of his reach, crossing the end line for a goal kick.

Before the half ended the Marauders used creative passing to move the ball into their offensive third and forced two consecutive corner kicks, only to be stopped by the Griffins defense. Then, with a minute to go in the first, freshman Jaime Vazquez dribbled to the 18 and rocketed a shot to the lower left 90. Goalkeeper Scott Matthews made the save, but nearly let the ball pass through his arms and into the net.

The half ended in a 0-0 deadlock with the Marauders taking five more shots and forcing two more corners than Seton Hill.

Millersville picked up right where it left off when the second period began. Quick ball movement and a balanced offensive assault provided more scoring chances for the Marauders as they were not to be deterred in the second frame.

15 minutes into the second frame the Marauders finally broke through. Senior Andrew Dukes gathered the ball 40 yards out and took a couple touches before playing a beautiful pass to a cutting Jeramey Robbins. Robbins took a great touch from 18 yards out and knocked in for what ended up being the game-winner into the lower left corner of the net.

With the Marauders up 1-0 they used the momentum to take complete control of the game.

In the 73rd minute Ryan Rohrer took a corner kick for Millersville which bounced around in the box and found the foot of freshman Zack Brier. Brier played a quick pass to teammate Ben Johnston who drilled home the second goal of the game from 12 yards away.

The most impressive goal of the night came off the foot of freshman Jaime Vazquez from 25 yards away. Vazquez found a deflected pass end up right at his feet and he blasted a shot into the lower right 90. The highlight reel goal capped the Marauders 3-0 victory.

This was Millersville's first shutout of the season thanks in part to Schneider's five saves in goal and a stifling defensive effort.

The Marauders also took 28 shots, the most since Oct. 22, 2010 when Millersville took 29 shots in a 4-1 win against Gannon.

With the win the Marauders moves to 2-1 on the season. Their next game will be this Wednesday Sept. 12 at 12:30 p.m. at Davis & Elkins.
