Mercyhurst Deals Men's Soccer Second Consecutive Defeat

Box Score Erie, Pa. - Millersville men's soccer came up empty in the swing through Erie. After falling 3-0 to Gannon Friday, the Marauders suffered a loss by the same score to Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon.

The back-to-back shutouts were the first since October of 2011 for the Marauders (5-4, 2-2 PSAC). Mercyhurst (6-4, 4-1) has now won six of its last seven and five of those wins have come by shutout.

Mercyhurst's 19 shots were the most by a Millersville opponent this season, and it received three goals from three different players. The first came at the 24:56 mark from David Dougherty. Austin Solomon added another just over five minutes later, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead at the half.

Solomon assisted Fernando Martinez for the Lakers' third goal of the game. Marauder keeper Chris Schneider stopped a career-high seven shots.

Millersville's scoring chances were few. The team totaled four shots in each half, and the only two shots on goal came in the second period. One came from Austin DeHaven and the other from Jeramey Robbins.

The Marauders have never lost three in the five-plus seasons of Steve Widdowson's coaching tenure. To avoid that, the Marauders must rebound against Wilmington at home on Oct. 3. Game time is 7 p.m. Wilmington won last season's meeting, 4-2.
