No. 4 Gannon Stays Unbeaten by Topping Marauders

Box Score Erie, Pa. - Friday's PSAC clash between No. 4 Gannon and Millersville featured a pair of teams unbeaten in league play. Gannon used a second-half surge to pull away from the visiting Marauders by a 3-0 score, staying perfect on the season.

The Golden Knights improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC while the Marauders dropped to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Three three-goal defeat was the most one-sided regular season loss by a Millersville club since it lost to Lock Haven 4-0 in Coach Steve Widdowson's first season of 2007. It was also the first time Millersville has been shutout in a regular season game since October 27, 2011.

While the Marauders held a statistical edge in the first half (4-3 in shots, 3-1 in corners), it was Gannon that took the lead on the scoreboard. At the 20:57 mark, leading scorer Robbie Bennett tallied his seventh of the season on a strike from 10 yards away.

Reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week Andrew Dukes fired two shots on goal in the first period but both were saved by Jason Barbarino. Millersville also came up without a shot attempted on both of its late, first-half corner kicks.

Gannon took over in the second period, though. The Golden Knights totaled 10 shots--six on goal--and held a 7-2 edge in corners. At the 68:30 mark, Sean Pike gathered a deflected shot from Bennett and booted it past Brad Benzing, giving Gannon a 2-0 lead. The lead extended less than a minute later when Alex Perri was assisted by Tyler Hollingsworth.

Down three, Millersville managed just two more shots the rest of the way.
