New York City, NY – In the first day of the New Balance Invitational on Friday Elicia Anderson ran a school-record time of 16:48.08 in the 5,000-meter run. The senior's time broke her own school record she set last year and was good enough to place her ninth overall against very tough competition.
Anderson's time is not only a PSAC qualifier, but also an NCAA Provisional Time as well.
This is the second weekend in a row Anderson has broken a school record in a distance event. Last weekend at the Bison Open at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Anderson re-broke her own 3,000-meter school record. She owns school records in both distance events on indoor tracks.
Also competing yesterday for the Millersville women was freshman record-setter Harlee Staller. Staller had a long jump of 5.11 meters, 0.40 meters off the school record she set in the event during the first competition of the season. That distance placed her 50th out of 77 jumpers. Katherine Lennex also competed in the event but finished with a foul in her final attempt.
On the men's side, Jeff Robinson competed in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Robinson's 60-meter time was a season- and career-best 7.24 seconds, topping the 7.27-second finish he recorded during the 2009-10 indoor season. That preliminary time gave him a 55th-place finish. In the 200-meter dash, Robinson ran a 22.76, just one-hundredth of a second behind his season-best time of 22.75 seconds, set last weekend at the Bison Open. For his time in the 200-meter, Robinson finished 42nd.
The Marauders are in action again today in the second day of the invitational.
