Big Seventh Inning Pushes Seton Hill Past Marauders

Box Score

Williamston, N.C. - Seton Hill and Millersville met Sunday in an early season Atlantic Region clash that for six innings had all the look of a closely-played playoff game. Then in the seventh, Seton Hill ripped the Millersville bullpen for seven runs, and the Griffins held on for a 9-2 win.

Seton Hill improved to 5-0 on the season and dropped No. 10 Millersville to 5-2. The loss was Millersville's first in 10 games at the Williamston, N.C. Skewarkee Park.

Millersville starter Mike McMonagle and Seton Hill's Brad Schnelle (2-0) dueled for the first five innings. McMonagle was not overwhelming but battled. He did not allow a run on two hits but walked four and hit three. Still, he kept the Griffins off the board by stranding nine. Schnelle was just as good, though, and Millersville had just two hits in the first five innings.

Mark Royer (1-1) came on in relief in the sixth and cruised through his first inning. In the seventh, though, Nick Ermino sparked Seton Hill with a leadoff double. One batter later, Mike Leviseur doubled in Ermino to break the scoreless tie. That just got Seton Hill started. The Griffins went on to score seven on five hits and two hit batsmen. Four of the runs were credited to Royer, and Jason Long was accountable for three.

Millersville struck back with two in the bottom of the inning. Jeff Heisey walked and later scored on Evan King's sacrifice fly. Mike August also singled home Ryan Chesler. Seton Hill came right back in the top of the eighth with two more runs off three hits to put Millersville out of reach.

Millersville managed just four hits in the game. Two came from Chesler and two came off the bat of August. Four different Griffins tallied two hits to contribute toward the team's total of 12. It was the most runs allowed by Millersville since giving up 12 to Kutztown on April 2, 2011.

The Marauders head to Washington, Pa. next Saturday for a doubleheader with California (Pa.).
