Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Clark Habecker picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season. He notched the game-winning goal in the 70th minute of Tuesday's PSAC contest with Lock to lift the Millersville men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Bald Eagles.
Millersville (6-6, 3-2 PSAC) went up 1-0 on Habecker's goal at the 70:46 minute mark, and senior
Matt Kadoch added an insurance goal with 14 minutes to play.
Brad Benzing got the start in goal for the Marauders and recorded four saves.
Lock Haven (5-6-1, 2-4 PSAC) was led by Adam Suplee and Asher Klahold who each totaled two shots on goal. Bald Eagle goalkeeper Chris Frederick recorded eight saves in the contest.
The first half was a relatively quiet period with neither team able to score or create many threatening scoring opportunities. Millersville did control play as they outshot Lock Haven 10-2 and took four corners while not allowing a single corner to the Bald Eagles.
As the second half began both teams became frustrated and the physicality of the game increased. With fouls increasing quickly, chances to score increased as well. Both teams were able to force free kicks deep in the opponent's territory.
With 20 minutes to play Millersville worked the ball into its attacking third and a center cross was played into the box. The cross sailed over forward Andrew Duke's head and towards the back of the box. Habecker, waiting on the back side, was unmarked and let the ball bounce before striking a shot at the goal. His strike was on the mark as it passed Frederick and into the back of the net, giving the Marauders the 1-0 lead with 19:14 to play.
Less than six minutes later Millersville added an insurance goal on a corner. Junior Zach Caracciolo took the corner and played the ball just outside of the six. Senior
Matt Kadoch jumped over the defense and headed the ball into the upper left corner of the goal, padding the lead to 2-0 in the 76th minute.
Benzing and the defense limited the Bald Eagles to 10 shots and only one corner in the match. Benzing picked up his second shutout on the year and his four saves tied a season high. Kadoch and
Colby Zeger led the Millersville attack with four shots each.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Marauders.
