Men's Soccer Secures Playoff Berth with 2-1 Win

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville's head men's soccer coach Steve Widdowson extended his program's streak of consecutive PSAC Tournament appearances to six by leading his team to a 2-1 victory over Bloomsburg Tuesday evening.
Millersville (8-6, 5-2 PSAC) only took eight shots in the game, but it took advantage of the opportunities it had. Senior Matt Kadoch and junior Ryan Rohrer scored for the Marauders and captain Andrew Dukes notched an assist to record a point in his fourth consecutive match. Goalkeeper Brad Benzing recorded a season high seven saves against the Huskies to improve his record to 5-1 this season.
Bloomsburg (7-7-1, 2-4-1 PSAC) recorded five more shots and two more corners than Millersville, but the Huskies could only muster one goal. That goal was scored by Anthony Manero off of a corner kick. Huskies goalkeeper Bernie Roell gathered one save in the game.
The Marauders got on the board first in the 19th minute. Dukes collected the ball near the box and was quickly covered by Bloomsburg defenders. He dumped the ball off to Kadoch, who bent the ball near the left post and around Roell for his team leading fifth goal of the year.
With Millersville up 1-0 the Huskies were able to respond 10 minutes later. Miguel Diaz took a corner kick for Bloomsburg and his corner found the head of Manero. Manero was able to knock the ball past Benzing and tie the game at one goal a piece in the 29th minute.
Rohrer helped the Marauders reclaim the lead 168 seconds later. Rohrer carried the ball down the sideline and fired a shot from just outside the box. His blast resembled Kadoch's goal as it bent toward the left post and into the back of the net giving Millersville a 2-1 lead. Rohrer's tally was his first since scoring the game-winner against California (Pa.) almost a month ago.
The Huskies outshot Millersville 8-3 in the second half, but Benzing was able to stop each attempt by the home team and preserve the victory for his team.
With the new conference format allowing six teams into the PSAC Tournament, the Marauders are assured to make the playoffs for the sixth straight year with a 5-2 conference record.
Millersville has now won three straight PSAC contests and will go for their fourth in a row when they host East Stroudsburg at home this Saturday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
The 2011 PSAC Championship team will be honored prior to the game for claiming the program's first conference title.
