Andrew Dukes, including the game-winner in the first overtime period to defeat Slippery Rock, 2-1.
Dukes scored his first goal in the second half to tie the game at one goal apiece. In overtime, Dukes glanced the game-winner off the crossbar on a pass from
Bryan Werner just under nine minutes into the extra frame. Millersville (7-6, 4-2 PSAC) totaled 20 shots, including a season-high seven by Dukes, and 14 corners in the contest.
Brad Benzing played the entire game at keeper and recorded three saves against the Rock.
Slippery Rock (6-2-5, 2-2-2 PSAC) scored in the first half on a goal by Blake McChesney that was assisted by Michael Rameriz. The Marauders' defense held the Rock to 12 shots and six corners throughout the game. Slippery Rock goalkeeper Clayton Master notched seven saves on the day.
The Rock wasted little time getting on the board with their first tally at the 13:34 mark in the first period. Michael Ramirez took a shot on goal but his target was just high. The ball ricocheted off of the crossbar and fell to the feet of McChesney, who buried his shot past Benzing for a 1-0 Rock advantage.
Neither team was able to score throughout the rest of the first half with Slippery Rock taking one more shot and corner at the intermission.
The second half was a different story as Millersville grabbed control of the game.
After being kept off the scoreboard for 62 minutes, Millersville's team leader in assists, Dukes, decided to do some scoring himself. Dukes took a few touches from 25 yards away and fired a laser towards the left post. Master tried to make the save but Dukes blast snuck into the lower left 90 for the equalizer.
The game remained tied to the end of regulation, and Millersville entered its first extra period of the season.
After stopping two shots and a corner by The Rock, the Marauders took advantage of their first opportunity. This time Dukes gathered in a pass from Werner and fired a shot on frame. His strike hit the post and trickled slowly into the net, ending the game at the 98:49 mark.
Millersville improves to 4-2 in the PSAC with the win.
The Marauders continue conference play on Oct. 16 as they travel to Bloomsburg to take on the Huskies at 7:30 p.m.
