McBride, Martin Lead Marauders in Alumni Open

Millersville, Pa. – The men and women's cross country teams came to run this morning. Both teams won the event in the Marauder Alumni Open. The men's team placed nine of the top 14 runners, and the women took six of their top 12 slots.
The entire event was paced by James McBride, the men's top returner from a year ago. He took first place overall with a time of 15:53 and led wire-to-wire. Connor Veres finished 34 seconds behind McBride, placing third in the men's group with a time of 16:27. Millersville's other top placers were Brad Slaughter (16:42), Michael Parker (16:42) and Ben Morrison (17:02).
The women's team was led by Brittney Martin, who placed second among the women with a time of 20:01. Backing up Martin for the women were Sarah Mulvey placing third (20:02), Rebekah Moore (20:10), Megan Meyer (21:09) and Michelle Blum (21:25).
The cross country team not only raced against Franklin & Marshall on this day, but was also challenged by 22 total alumni from both schools. Millersville's top woman alum was Emily Francisco ('11), who finished fifth in the women's group with a time of 21:08. The top alum on the men's side was another 2011 graduate, Josh Foulds. He finished fifth as well in the men's group with a final time of 16:38.
Both teams will now turn their attention to the next event on the schedule. The Marauders race in the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. in Van Courtlandt, N.Y.
