Lock Haven, Pa. - Millersville cross country coach Andy Young fully expected James McBride to deliver an impressive 2011 season. After Saturday's Lock Haven Invitational, it's safe to say that McBride is delivering. He posted a time of 25:44.50 on the 8K to best a field of 115 runners for his first career intercollegiate race win.
McBride's time came within two seconds of a personal best and was four seconds faster than Slippery Rock's Alex Koksal. The win also came with four other PSAC teams in the field and was the first by a Millersville men's runner since Mark Stallings' 2004 NCAA regional victory.
The first-place finish paced the team to a third-place finish among six teams. Connor Veres placed 15th overall with a time of 26:47.30. Bradley Slaughter and Michael Parker finished three seconds apart and in back-to-back places at 24th and 25th respectively. Chris Brandt completed the Marauders' scoring with a 30th-place finish. He posted a time of 27:36.
Slippery Rock took the team title with all five runners placing in the top 10. Lock Haven took second place with 41 points. Millersville totaled 86 points, besting Penn State Club, West Chester and Juniata.
The Marauders have an off-week before returning to the course at Slippery Rock on Oct. 8.
