Millersville, Pa. - For the second year in a row, the dual between Millersville and Sacred Heart came down to the final match of the evening. And for the second year in a row, Millersville won the match it needed. On Friday in Pucillo Gymnasium, freshman Joel Suter scored a pin and clinched a 28-20 home-opening victory for the Marauders.
Millersville (1-0) was assured of six points via forfeit at 285 pounds, but trailed 20-16 entering the 197-pound bout. Sam Morrison chose the down position to start the third period, and Suter managed to turn Morrison onto his back where he scored the pin at the 5:45 mark of the match. It was the freshman's seventh win in eight matches and his sixth pin.
Three of Millersville's wins came by forfeit. Suter's classmate Tyler Mullarkey, wrestling at 125 pounds, was the only other Marauder to win a contested match. He controlled the bout against Joe Harris from start to finish and scored an 18-4 major decision.
Millersville travels to Erie for the PSAC Championships on Dec. 10. Last season, 174-pound Shane Smith was the PSAC runner-up.
