Marauder Baseball Starts Announcement of Recruiting Class
11/18/2011 10:23:00 AM | Baseball
Millersville, Pa. - Coach Jon Shehan and Millersville baseball program has started to announce the signings for the 2012-13 recruiting class.
“The 2012 early signing class is one that has our coaching staff excited about the next future of Millersville Baseball,” said Shehan. “We are confident that each of these young men fit our program philosophy and will represent Millersville University well in the coming years.
“Nolan Neiman has definitely made an immediate mark on the program as recruiting coordinator,” continued Shehan. “He, Bob Preli and Miles Gallagher did an outstanding job finding talent across the region.”
The Marauders are coming off a second PSAC East title in four years under Shehan, as well as the program's first NCAA Atlantic Region title since 2000. To maintain that level of success, the staff focused on signing arms.
“Our main goal for this signing class was to increase depth on the mound, which will hopefully fill the void left by Derek Kline, Zach Eckley, Brooks Rothschild, Mike McMonagle, Jason Long, Tyler Horst and Andrew Hunt who are exiting to graduation between 2011 and 2012,” said Shehan. “Successful teams must be built around depth on the mound and a solid defense. We have also added some exceptional position players, which will replace the roster spots opened by outfielder Chris Edgar, first baseman Carlos Medina, catcher/first baseman Mike Perez and shortstop Mike August who are also graduating. This class has a great combination of excellent students, tough competitors and projectable talent and we are thrilled to be calling them Marauders.”

CODY STONEBACK
6'7” · 200 · RHP · Quakertown High School
About Stoneback: A power right-handed pitcher from that played Quakertown and the All-American Baseball Academy, Stoneback was a three-year varsity pitcher.
Shehan on Stoneback
Cody has the body and arm (88-89 MPH) that coaches simply define as 'projectable' on the mound. It was not hard for our staff to determine that he has the potential to be a force in PSAC. To make things even better, Cody was as excited to come to Millersville as our coaching staff was about recruiting him. His goals are exactly in line with our goals as a program.
Academic Interest: Elementary Education
Stoneback on Millersville
The program is exactly what I am looking for. The team did well last year and is heading in the right direction. Coach Shehan is the type of coach that will help me reach my ultimate goal, which is to play professionally.
Stoneback's Goals
Consistently throw in the 90's and have more movement on my off-speed pitches. (I want) to do my part as a freshman and help the team win the College World Series.
TANNER RAHAUSER
6'5” · 200 · RHP · Cumberland Valley High School
About Rahuaser: A hard-throwing right-hander for Coach Michael Whitehead's Cumberland Valley team. He also pitched for Elite Baseball for the last four years.
Shehan on Rahauser
Tanner comes from a successful program that has consistently turned out talent on the mound over the past few seasons and this year is no different. Like his other future teammates, Rahauser also has a projectable body and arm. His fastball is consistently in the mid to high 80s, even after being under the weather for a period of time this summer. Although he has above average velocity on his fastball, his best pitch could end up being his slider, which has gotten better with time.
Academic Interest: Biology
Rahauser on Millersville
I like the way (the team) goes about doing things. I like that pride is taken in everything that they do both on and off the field.
Rahauser's Goals
I want to make an impact on the program both on and off the field. My team goal is to win four rings.
MATT BINDER
6'6” · 190 · RHP · Haddonfield High School (N.J.)
About Binder: Named All-South Jersey Group 2 First Team as a junior after posting a 6-1 record for Bob Bickel's Haddonfield program. Binder posted a 4-1 record a sophomore.
Shehan on Binder
Matt also fits the theme of this year's class, being a big, projectable right-hander with the potential to throw very hard as he matures physically. What we really liked about Matt was his ability to throw strikes with all three of his pitches. His curveball is already an above average pitch in the PSAC. Matt's is from a baseball rich area in South Jersey that seems to always crank out talent.
Academic Interest: Business
Binder on Millersville
I liked the school for its academics, its baseball program and the location.
Binder's Goals
My personal goals are to work as hard as possible to develop my full potential as a baseball player. My team goal will be to do whatever is necessary both on and off the field to help my team win a Division II Championship.
MIKE KOLLHOFF
6'4” · 190 · LHP · Downingtown East High School
About Kollhoff: A left-hander with size, Kollhoff helped Jim Freeman's Downingtown East team to the second round of the district playoffs and posted a 1.87 ERA, 3-0 record and 23 strikeouts in 18 innings. He played for the All-Star Baseball Academy prospect team. He also lettered in ice hockey.
Shehan on Kollhoff
Mike comes from an athletic family and he has tremendous upside on the mound. His fastball sits in the low to mid 80's. What particularly stood out about Mike, beyond his athleticism, was his ability to throw his off speed pitches, especially his changeup, consistently for strikes.
Academic Interest: Marketing/Communications
Kollhoff on Millersville
I signed with Millersville because of their strong core covenants, its academic rank among other PSAC schools and the outstanding baseball program head by Coach Shehan.
Kollhoff's Goals
My main goal is to work hard to continue the winning traditions. I would also like to develop a fourth pitch, pick up speed on my fastball and better my mechanics. My team goals are to abide by the core covenants set by Coach Shehan, the coaching staff and the team. I would also like to win the PSAC and win a Division II Championship.
DYLAN SCHAEFFER
6'0” · 190 · RHP · Hagerstown Community College (Md.)
About Schaeffer: A three-sport athlete at Greencastle Antrim pitched two seasons at Hagerstown Community College—the same school from which the Marauders landed Mike August and Mike Perez a year ago. In 2011, he allowed just eight earned runs and 26 hits in 29.0 innings.
Shehan on Schaeffer
We tried to land Dylan out of Greencastle Antrim HS in 2009 but were unsuccessful. Since that point, Dylan has matured and become an excellent starting pitcher in the highly competitive Maryland JUCO system. We are thrilled to finally have Dylan join our program.
Academic Interest: Engineering/Industrial Technology
Schaeffer on Millersville
I decided to sign with Millersville because it is one of the best education schools, and I feel it will provide me with a great education. The baseball team is very good and has very good coaches that I want to play for.
Schaeffer's Goals
My baseball goals are to go to a good team where I can contribute and help them win, perform well on and off the field and perform well with the job that I am given for the team. My team goals are to develop strong friendships with my teammates, do everything that the coaches ask me to do, do everything right on and off the field.
MASON ROOF
6'0” · 190 · RHP · Towanda High School
About Roof: A four-year starter for Bill Sexton's Towanda program, Roof was an all-league first team and second team selection and two-time league champion. He was also all-league in basketball and an all-region running back.
Shehan on Roof
Mason is an outstanding three-sport athlete from Towanda—a school rich in athletic tradition. Mason plays running back on a football team that has lost one game in his four years in the program. He is a winner. On the mound, his fastball is consistently in the mid 80's with arm side life and his breaking ball has the potential to be an out pitch in the PSAC.
Academic Interest: Undecided
Roof on Millersville
I liked what the school had to offer academically and athletically. I felt like I had chemistry with the players and coaches.
Roof's Goals
Win a PSAC Championship and a (national championship). I always strive to be the best pitcher that I can be. I would like to be a leader and an inspiration to my teammates and the Millersville baseball program. I would also like to work toward becoming a Major League Baseball pitcher.
TYLER ORRIS
5'9” · 180 · SS · Cedar Cliff High School
About Orris: He is a slick-fielding shortstop with range and a strong arm. Also a star quarterback with Cedar Cliff, Orris is the type of athlete Shehan uses to create havoc on the base paths. He was an All-Mid-Penn honoree and team MVP for the District 3 champs. Orris started at shortstop for the Keystone State Games.
Shehan on Orris
Tyler is a two-sport athlete and he excels both on the football field as a quarterback and on the baseball field. Tyler has the ability to take away hits. He is advanced for a high school player at the shortstop position. His arm strength is well above average—we have had him up to 89 on the mound and he could very well be a short reliever. Tyler also has the ability to be an offensive force; he has plenty of speed to steal bases and enough pop to drive in runs also.
Academic Interest: Business
Orris on Millersville
I signed with Millersville because I'm excited to become part of a winning baseball program. I also really felt a connection with the coaches and feel that their coaching style is very similar to what I have been successful with at Cedar Cliff.
Orris' Goals
(I want) to win a national championship and go on to sign with the MLB…become a leader of the team.
DANIEL STOLTZFUS
6'2” · 215 · OF · Pequea Valley High School
About Stoltzfus: A four-year starter and three-time team MVP at Pequea Valley, Stoltzfus was an All-Lancaster-Lebanon League selection for Coach Reiter. The outfielder played for Randy Gibson of PA Select as well.
Shehan on Stoltzfus
Only time will tell, but Dan's swing projects for immediate impact at our level. He provides some much needed left-handed pop in our outfield with the loss of Chris Edgar to graduation. We feel Dan will come into his freshman year physically ready to play college baseball. He is a physical player that projects as a corner outfielder or possibly a first baseman.
Academic Interest: Business/Coaching
Stoltzfus on Millersville
My parents and I feel that Millersville gives me the best opportunity to succeed athletically and academically.
Stoltzfus' Goals
I want to earn as much playing time as I can and continue to improve offensively and defensively. As a team, I want to win the PSAC and go to the College World Series.
JOHN BROGAN
6'3” · 215 · RHP/1B · Marple Newtown High School
About Brogan: A three-sport athlete for all four years at Marple Newtown, Brogan is a hard thrower on the mound and is a versatile athlete that could also provide some run production.
Shehan on Brogan
John has pop at the plate and two above average pitches on the mound. His fastball sits in the mid 80's and his breaking ball is hard with downward bite. We like the fact that John provides some needed pop—possible middle of the lineup power—while also giving us the versatility to pitch. The biggest challenge for John is going to figuring out exactly what his best position really is. It's a good problem to have.
Academic Interest: Criminology/Criminal Justice
Brogan on Millersville
Millersville has a great baseball and academic program with enthusiastic coaches.
Brogan's Goals
Succeed at baseball and become the best I can, then get drafted into the professionals. (I want) to help my team win the PSAC and be No.1 in the nation.
“The 2012 early signing class is one that has our coaching staff excited about the next future of Millersville Baseball,” said Shehan. “We are confident that each of these young men fit our program philosophy and will represent Millersville University well in the coming years.
