Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville cross country program, led by head coach Andy Young, has announced the dates for the 2011 Eastern States Cross Country Camp. The camp is for boys and girls in grades 7-12 and runs from July 31-August 5.
Under Young, Millersville has emerged into a regional power and has produced two All-Americans in the last two years. The camp runs for six days and five nights and is hosted on the Millersville University campus.
Each day, campers begin with breakfast and a morning run followed by technique work, swimming and recreation, special speakers, film study and an evening run. Also, campers have access to special guest James Carney '00, who is one of the top U.S. distance runners, having qualified for the Olympic Trials twice in two events. James represented the country at the 2008 World Cross Country Championships and is sponsored by New Balance and the Red Rose Distance Project. In the fall of 2010, he was inducted into the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Campers will not only be instructed by top-notch collegiate coaches, but will also stay in air-conditioned dorms with chef-prepared food and have access to a modern swimming pool and other recreational activities.
The cost for resident campers is $399 and includes all meals, lodging, instruction and a camp shirt. The cost for commuters is $355. Team discounts are available with more than six campers from the same school district. For more information, call 717-293-1962. To sign up, download the brochure and mail it to the listed address.
