York, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team bounced back quickly from its first dual meet loss of the season and handed host York a 118-81 defeat Friday evening in the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The Marauders are now 6-1 overall with the victory.
The 400-yard medley relay team set the pace for the day's events with a first-place finish. The team, of Samantha Strickler, Amie Mowery, Sarah Bernhardt and Rebecca Anderson finished in 4:20.83, 10 seconds ahead of second-place finishing York.
Walbert and Laura Castello finished second and third, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle. Walbert clocked in at 11:27.01 and Castello finished with a time of 11:57.86.
Millersville took places two through four in the 200-yard freestyle. Amanda Thomas picked up a second-place finish with a season-best time of 2:05.36, followed by a neck-in-neck Victoria DeTample (2:08.46) and Adriana Rodriguez (2:08.65).
In the 50 free, Bernhardt claimed top honors with a time of 25.55 seconds, followed by Anderson in second with a time of 27.10. Christine Neville finished in a close fourth in 27.57 seconds. Walbert and Strickler picked up second and third-place finishes in the 200 individual medley, finishing with times of 2:23.24 and 2:26.56.
The Marauders swept the top-three spots in the 100 butterfly. Mowery finished first with a time of 1:04.31, followed by Courtney Wallace in 1:06.89 and Katie Bentley with a time of 1:09.03.
Bernhardt notched first place in the 100 free, touching the wall in 55.14 seconds. Rodriguez clocked in at 59.01 for third place and Anderson finished fourth in 1:00.03. Walbert picked up a first place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.96. Thomas claimed third in 1:09.30 followed by Sara Keenan in fourth in 1:11.68.
For the second time on the night Millersville swept the top-three spots of an event. Strickler finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.91. Mowery claimed second in 1:14.48 and Courtney Wallace finished third in 1:14.71.
The Marauders continue action on Saturday when they host Bridgewater in Pucillo Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
