Millersville Defeats Harford, 8-1

Bouncing back from a 9-0 defeat just two days prior, the Millersville women's tennis team defeated Harford 8-1 Monday in Maryland. The Marauders swept the doubles matches and gave up just one singles match, to improve to 2-1 on the year.

In the No. 1 spot, Melissa Plowman blanked Meagan Heagy 6-0, 6-0. Samantha Prager defeated Jill Casey 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot, and Kaeley McCabe earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Katie Sampayo in the third spot.

Shauna Powers fell to Julie Vulcannon in three sets by scores of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in the fourth spot, and Amanda Carello defeated Brooke Schneider at No. 5 7-6, 6-3. Kelsey Waite blanked Jessie Bittorf 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, Prager and Plowman handled Heagy and Casey by an 8-2 mark in the No. 1 spot. McCabe and Powers earned a No. 2 victory over Sampayo and Vulcannon 9-7, and Carello and Waite rounded out the doubles victories with an 8-3 win over Schneider and Lynch.

Millersville returns to action Saturday, Oct. 2 when it hosts Kutztown at 11 a.m.
