Millersville, Pa. — Nationally-ranked Millersville men's soccer opens its 2010 season with a Sunday afternoon clash against Shepherd. It's also the start of the team's promotional schedule, as the first 300 students will receive Millersville soccer wristbands at the match, which is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
Millersville is coming off of a 17-3 campaign in 2009, which included its second straight trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Black and Gold begins the new season ranked No. 17 in the NSCAA/adidas Division II Preseason Poll. The program is celebrating 50 years of existence this season, after the program began in 1960. 2010 will be the 51st season in school history. The Marauders have a number of fan friendly experiences lined up for this season.
Besides Sunday's giveaway, the Marauders plan to hold alumni night on Saturday, Sept. 11, where they will honor the 1960 squad. The night will feature on-field recognition and a cookout to commemorate the occasion.
On the night of Saturday, Sept. 18, Millersville will hold youth night when it takes on C.W. Post for the first time since 2004. Senior day is scheduled for Oct. 30, against West Chester.
In addition to the schedule of events, the program announced that it will hold halftime contests for college students at all mid-week games. The program is also selling Millersville soccer scarves for $20. Scarves can be purchased at games, or through head coach
