Box Score
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's soccer team dominated the stat sheet in every category except the one that matters: goals. West Virginia Wesleyan was able to steal a 1-0 victory at Millersville Saturday evening.
The Marauders started the game strong, firing shot after shot on Bobcat's goalkeeper Ryan McDougall. McDougall handled five saves on 10 Millersville shots--five on goal--in the first half.
Wesleyan managed to get only three shots off in the first. The most important one came 11 minutes in when forward Diego Michelato collected the ball from teammate Matthew Brown and chipped it over Marauder keeper Matt Langione from outside the box to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
In the final minutes of the first half the Marauders were on the attack again. Senior Kyle Loughlin was pulled down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. With the momentum swinging back on Millersville's side and a chance to get the equalizer, Loughlin struck the ball. McDougall dove to his right and swatted the low aimed shot away where it was gathered by the Bobcats and cleared down field.
Millersville continued to put on the heat in the second half but was unable to find the equalizer. The Marauders finished the game with a 17-4 edge in shots. Millersville earned nine corner attempts failing on every try.
Loughlin led the squad with two shots on goal, with three other Marauders registering just one. Langione only saw four shots the entire night recording just one save.
Millersville is back in action Tuesday, Oct. 12 against the Vulcans of California (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
