Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's and women's track and field and cross country programs completed its third annual holiday community service project, raising money for three aid organizations in the Lancaster area.
In addition to asking for donations from family and friends, the squads collected money at the track and field/cross country alumni and awards dinner as well as from students and faculty across Millersville's campus. In all they raised an impressive total of $1,300 this season.
The teams decided to split the money and donate to three different causes this year. Of the total amount raised, $500 was spent through the Adopt-a-Family project at the YWCA. The student-athletes bought and wrapped gifts for the family, such as clothing and educational games.
Of the remainder of the team's collections, $750 was donated to the Water Street Rescue Mission and $50 was given to the Salvation Army. This year marks the third year the teams have participated in this holiday community service project, raising a total of almost $4,000 for local charities.
