New Castle, Del. — Jorge Zapata's goal in the seventh minute of overtime completed a stunning comeback as Wilmington (Del.) handed the No. 3 Millersville men's soccer team its first defeat of the season, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon.

The previously unbeaten Marauders (5-1) looked well on their way to another victory in the first half. Defender Jeremy Yoder raced the visitors out to a 1-0 lead just 1:43 into the game. Sophomore Pat Baffuto's corner kick found Yoder, who beat Wilmington (6-2) keeper Ethan Kavanagh for his first tally of the season.

Millersville would strike again in the 36th minute. Eric Pepper found Aaron Roland in deep and Roland beat Kavanagh from the left side of the six yard box to make it 2-0. The goal was Roland's second in his last three games.

Wilmington started its comeback in the 60th minute with a goal from Sargbah Tarpeh. Tarpeh took a pass from Carsten Wagner and beat Matt Langione to cut the 2-0 deficit in half at 2-1. Before the Marauders could collect themselves, the home team struck again. Tarpeh hooked up with Zapata in the 64th minute and all of a sudden it was a 2-2 game.

The Wildcats were ranked 16th in the NSCAA/adidas poll on September 8, but fell out in the latest poll —released on Wednesday— after dropping a 2-1 decision at Le Moyne last Thursday. It took them just 6:12 into overtime to make a statement that they belonged back in the poll. Tarpeh, who factored into all three Wilmington goals, once again found Zapata and the junior beat Langione to end it.

Millersville's string of holding opponents without a goal finally came to an end at 427:44 minutes. The loss was also the first for Millersville when leading at halftime since Oct. 19, 2005, when the Marauders held a 2-1 lead over California (Pa.), before falling 5-2.

Duhan Malali came on in relief of Kavanagh at halftime and earned the win, stopping all three shots he saw. Langione made two saves in defeat. The Black and Gold outshot Wilmington 10-6 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Marauders will look to get back in the win column Saturday night when they host Shippensburg in a PSAC Eastern Division contest at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
