Erie, Pa. – The No. 20 Millersville men's soccer team made a late charge but could not complete the comeback as they fell, for the first time this season, to host Mercyhurst by a final of 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
Marauders' midfielder
Ryan Kiley cut into the 2-0 Laker lead in the 83rd minute after taking a quick pass from teammate Stephen Melnick and finishing it to put Millersville on the board.
Kiley then nearly sent the game to overtime in the final minute of the game, but his shot attempt from inside the six was denied by Mercyhurst goalkeeper Danny Mudd. Mudd made six saves for the Lakers.
Millersville (6-1) heavily outshot Mercyhurst as they fired 27 shots to just 16 for the home team.
The Marauders will get back to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play this Wednesday, September 23, when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 5 p.m. start. East Stroudsburg is currently 4-0 in conference play and is ranked sixth in the country.
