Women's Tennis Stays Undefeated With 7-2 Win Over Shippensburg

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's tennis team made its home debut Saturday and did not dissapoint, rolling past Shippensburg by a 7-2 score to improve a spotless 3-0 on the season.

It is the program's first 3-0 start since the 2001 season, and for the second-straight dual, the Marauders swept all three doubles matches. On the season, Millersville is 8-1 in doubles.

Coach Shari Bucklin-Webber shook up the Marauder lineup in singles. Andrea Konas, who generally competes in the No. 1 slot at both doubles and singles, was not in action. But Lindsay Knappenberger filled in admirably. She and Jenny Habecker rolled to an 8-2 win in doubles. The freshman tandem of Shauna Powers and Samantha Souders moved up from No. 3 doubles to No. 2 but still managed to improve to 3-0 as a team, notching an 8-3 win. Michelle DeStefano paired with sophomore Kacy Talone, who was making her first appearance of the season, and the pair managed a 9-8 (7-3) triumph.

In singles, Knappenberger made her first appearance of the season in the No. 1 spot and cruised to 6-2, 6-2 win. Shippensburg's only victories of the afternoon came at No. 4 and No. 6 singles.

The Marauders look to continue their early-season run Sunday at home against Georgian Court. The dual is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
