Marauders Claim PSAC East Title with 2-0 Victory over ESU

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – Senior forward Ryan Kiley scored in the 62nd minute and freshmen Dan Prian added an insurance goal nearly 17 minutes later to lead the No. 6 Millersville University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over No. 11 East Stroudsburg Tuesday evening and secure its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division Championship since 1990.

Millersville (14-2, 9-0 PSAC East) won its seventh consecutive game and equaled the school record for wins in a season in the process.  With the win, the Marauders lock up the number one seed and home field advantage in the upcoming PSAC playoffs where they will take on the Warriors again in the first round.

East Stroudsburg (15-4, 8-2 PSAC East), which came into the match ahead of the Marauders in the NCAA regional standings where the two teams claim the top two spots, fell to the Marauders for the second time this season.  Millersville defeated East Stroudsburg back on September 24, by a 4-1 count in East Stroudsburg.

In Tuesday evening's first-place showdown, both teams started slow and carried a 0-0 tie into the locker room at halftime.  Millersville delivered seven shots against only six shots for the visitors.

After a shot by East Stroudsburg's Toric Robinson in the 59th minute was saved by Marauder goalkeeper Matt Langione, Millersville forward Sean McLaughlin found Kiley, who beat ESU keeper Larry Pokrywa for the game's first goal.  McLaughlin's assist marked the sixth straight game in which the senior collected a point for the Marauders.

Prian, who now has three goals on the season for the Marauders, put the game away in the 78th minute when he beat three East Stroudsburg defenders and fired a shot into the lower right corner of the goal for an insurmountable 2-0 lead.  ESU could not take advantage of several scoring opportunities late in the contest as Langione made the final of his four saves in the game to preserve the win.

Millersville, which has won now three PSAC Eastern Division Titles (2008, 1990, 1970), will host ESU next Wednesday, November 5, in the conference semifinals.

The Marauders will look to close out an unbeaten regular season in the PSAC East at homecoming this Saturday when they take on Bloomsburg in their final regular season game.  The game that will recognize seniors Sean McLaughlin, Ryan Kiley, Matthew Procopio and Neil Peterson is set to begin at 8:30 p.m.
