Virginia Hampton Malson was a four-year varsity letterwinner in field hockey (1948-51) and a three-year varsity letterwinner in basketball (1949-52) at Millersville. She was elected co-captain in both sports in 1951.

She was a key player for Millersville's first undefeated and untied field hockey squad in 1950 which posted a 6-0 record. And she represented the University in central Pennsylvania, Mid-Eastern, and national field hockey tournaments in 1950.

She was a member of the Varsity Club, was secretary of her sophomore class, and also participated on the art staff of the 1952 Touchstone yearbook.

Malson began her teaching career in 1962 as a substitute in the Neptune and Long Branch (N.J.) school districts. She began full-time teaching as a third grade instructor at the Shark River Hills School in Neptune from 1969 until her retirement in 1993.

An outstanding bowler, Virginia participated in the New Jersey State Championship Tournament for 30 years and won the state seniors tournament at age 61. In 1991, she won the Division C (ages 60-64) in the Women's International Bowling Congress-sponsored Women's National Seniors Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. In May of 1996, Malson received a plaque for 25 years of participation in the WIBC National Tournament.

Her community service includes a 15-year membership in the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women. She also served 14 years with the Monmouth County (N.J.) Women's Bowling Association, including a two-year term as vice-president.

She is the proud grandmother of five and also has one great-grandchild.
