Whether intercollegiate tennis competition was singles or doubles,
Ted Snyder excelled in both disciplines during his four-year Millersville career in the 1980’s.
In his junior and senior seasons (1985 and 1986) during which he served as team captain, Snyder paired with Andy Stoner (also a member of the MU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2004) to earn NCAA Division II All-America doubles laurels when they reached the quarterfinal round. The Snyder-Stoner duo won three PSAC doubles crowns (No. 1 flight, 1985; No. 2 flight, 1984; and No. 3 flight, 1982-83) and finished runner-up once (1986, No. 1 flight).
Snyder was a two-time PSAC singles champion, as he captured the No. 1 flight title in 1985 and the No. 2 flight crown in 1986. He was also a two-time flight runner-up in state tourney competition.
In the fall of 1985, Snyder captured the No. 2 flight title in the ECAC Divisions II/III singles tournament. He helped pace MU to the 1985 PSAC team championship and a glittering 79-31 dual match record over four seasons. The Marauders were second twice and third once in PSAC Tournament action during Snyder’s career. His coach, Dr. William Kahler, estimated that Snyder won approximately 90 singles matches during his career.
Snyder earned a bachelor's of arts degree in mathematics from Millersville and received a master's of education in mathematics from Lehigh in 1991.
Since 1988, Snyder has served as a mathematics teacher at Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown, Pa. He has guided the Wildcat boys’ basketball team for the past 16 years and has served as head golf coach since 2001. From 1988 to 1994, Snyder skippered the OJR tennis squad.
He conducts an annual boys’ basketball summer camp at OJR. He also serves as co-director of the All-American Tennis Camp with MU alumnus and net standout Oliver Merrill.
