A dynamic playmaker for the legendary 2008 men’s soccer team, Sean McLaughlin was a three-time All-PSAC selection, earning first team status twice and PSAC East Player of the Year recognition as a senior.

McLaughlin propelled the Millersville Marauders to new heights. His play, specifically in the 2008 season, helped set the stage for a recent run of five NCAA Tournament appearances in the last eight seasons. In addition to winning the PSAC East’s top honor, McLaughlin was voted Daktronics and NSCAA All-Atlantic Region First Team and the Atlantic Regional’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player after leading the club into the NCAA Quarterfinal for the first time in program history.
McLaughlin’s career spanned from 2005-2008, and he finished his career with 90 points and totaled 38 of them in 2008 with 14 goals and 10 assists. He ranks sixth in Millersville history in career goals with 34, third in career assists with 22 and fourth in career points with 90. He is one of only three players to rank in the top six of all three categories.

McLaughlin burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2005 with All-PSAC Second Team honors after leading the team with nine goals and 22 points. He again led the team in goals and points as a sophomore, but the arrival of Coach Steve Widdowson in 2007 helped McLaughlin take his game to the next level. McLaughlin helped the Marauders to the PSAC Tournament by tallying a team-leading nine goals, a team-high seven assists and a team-best 25 points. He was named All-PSAC First Team at season’s end.

With McLaughlin fronting the 2008 team’s attack, the club garnered a national ranking for the first time in program history, won the PSAC Eastern Division with a spotless 10-0 record and rolled to the PSAC Championship game where McLaughlin scored one of the team’s two goals. After a runner-up finish in the conference tournament, the Marauders reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time, and McLaughlin registered two assists in the opening win over California and scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Slippery Rock, which advanced the Marauders to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Trailing Northern Kentucky 1-0 with less than six minutes remaining in regulation, McLaughlin assisted on the game-tying goal, sending the contest into overtime. The Marauders eventually fell on penalty kicks but McLaughlin converted his chance.

McLaughlin graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration/marketing and has worked as a police officer for Northampton Township in Bucks County for the last seven years. He and his wife, Tanya, have two children: Sean and Paige.
