The workhorse and offensive focal point for one of the top teams in Millersville history, running back Scott Highley powered his way to 2,883 career rushing yards and two All-PSAC East First Team selections from 1986-89.
Highley graduated from Millersville with 3,221 all-purpose yards and still ranks second in career rushing yards and first with 6.5 yards per carry. He is the only player in school history to rush for at least 1,300 yards twice. His 1988 campaign still ranks as the best in Millersville history as he totaled 1,399 yards and 15 touchdowns.
After serving as Millersville’s primary fullback in 1987, Highley entered his junior season as a relative unknown with 78 career carries. He exploded onto the scene with nine 100-yard rushing performances, a team-leading 1,669 all-purpose yards and a school-record 90 points. Highley carried the offensive load for the 10-2 Marauders. His 220 carries set a school record, and after a regular season in which the Marauders posted a 9-1 record and Highley totaled 1,182 yards rushing, he added 217 yards in two NCAA Division II playoff games. Highley ranked ninth nationally in rushing yards that season, made the ECAC Honor Roll five times and was a Maxwell Football Club honoree. He was named AP All-America at the conclusion of the season.
His 1989 season was just as productive and maybe even more impressive. He entered the season as a preseason AP All-American, and racked up 1,333 yards and averaged an outstanding 7.8 yards per carry. He was an All-PSAC East First Team selection for the second year in a row.
Highley earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology in 1991. He also earned a minor in construction management from Drexel University and has numerous leadership professional certificates including a master graduate of Rapport International.
Scott works in the Boston, Mass., area as an asphalt operations manager for P.J. Keating Inc., a division of Old Castle Materials. He is married to Brandi Fischer and together they have raised three children: Mckenzie, Jordon and Shaun. He was also inducted into the Spring-Ford High School Football Wall of Fame in 2008.
