The all-time scoring leader in Millersville basketball history with 2,261 points and named one of the top 30 players in the first 100 years of Marauder cage history, Phil Walker earned his rightful place in the Millersville Athletic Hall of Fame.
Walker held the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference career point mark for 14 seasons (1977 to 1991). Currently, he is the 'Ville career cage record holder in field goals made (908) and attempted (1,990--also a PSAC record), and tallied a club standard 292 field goals during the 1976-77 season.
A four-time All ECAC Division II and All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team selection, Walker earned NAIA All-American first team status and NCAA Division III/Associated Press All-American second team honors in 1977. He was a two-time NAIA All-American Honorable Mention (1975 and 1976).
Walker averaged 22.8 points per game during his standout four-year Marauder varsity career (1973-77). He averaged 26.6 ppg and 26.9 ppg in his junior and senior seasons, respectively. His 700-point total in 1977 ranks third on the MU season scoring chart.
A Philadelphia native, Walker scored 40 or more points six times, including career-high 42-point efforts versus F&M and Bloomsburg a week apart in 1977.
He helped lead the 'Ville to NAIA District 19 championships in 1974 and 1975. In the 1975 NAIA national tournament in Kansas City, Walker and his teammates made history when they upended Ferris State (Mich.) in a thrilling 82-81 first round triumph. As a freshman in '74, Walker and company equaled the program's season win record (21). Over his four-season career, Walker's teams were 62-40 overall.
A second round draft choice of the National Basketball Association's Washington Bullets, Walker played two seasons and was a member of the Bullets' 1978 NBA World Championship squad. He also competed for the San Diego Clippers.
At the conclusion of his basketball career, Walker was employed by Xerox Corporation from 1980 to 1984 as an account executive. He served four years each as a regional sales manager for Steelcase, Inc. and as division manager for Haworth, Inc. From 1992 to 1995, he was regional manager at Wheels, Inc. Currently, Walker is vice president of client services for Philadelphia-based Right Management Consultants, and is a key officer in the world's leading career transition and organizational consulting firm. He is a principle in a technology services firm and owns Walker R.E. Inc., a real estate investment and management company.
In addition, Phil is the selection committee chairman for Project Forward Leap, a special program facilitated through Millersville University.
And, he is actively involved in civic and community organizations in Philadelphia.
A 1979 Millersville graduate with a bachelor's of arts degree in psychology, Walker also has attained a master's of business administration degree from Antioch University.
In December, 2002, Walker served as speaker for Millersville's One-Hundred and Forty-Sixth Annual Commencement.
