A four-year varsity letterman for the Millersville soccer squad from 1969 to 1972, Mike Barr was captain of the '72 Marauder squad that advanced to the NAIA national tourney quarterfinal round (1-0 win over Alliance followed by a 2-0 defeat to Davis & Elkins). A PSAC all-star, he also was a member of Millersville's first PSAC Eastern Division championship squad in 1970, which advanced to the league final before falling to Lock Haven, 1-0.

Barr has compiled an extensive and impressive soccer resume' after his Millersville playing career concluded.

He played four seasons in the United League in Philadelphia and competed in senior league soccer in Pennsylvania and Delaware from 1980 to 1994. Actively involved with the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association, Barr twice served as Director of Coaching (1989-90, 1999-2002) and as Director of the EPYSA Olympic Development Program (1991-97).

He has served as Region One staff coach with the U.S. Soccer Federation since 1987 and has been a member of the USSF national staff since 1996. He is a National “A” licensed coach.

Barr coached high school soccer in Delaware before assuming the head coaching position at Strath Haven High School ( Delaware County ) in 1984. Over the past two decades, his Haven teams have amassed 14 Central League championships, six PIAA District 1 titles, and five PIAA state crowns.

Barr also served as head coach of the Philadelphia Freedom (ISUSL pro soccer league) in 1996 and 1996 and attained a 22-12 overall record.

During his coaching career, the Marple Newtown High School alumnus has achieved numerous awards, including the Pennsylvania High School Coaches Assn. (1990), the Delaware High School Coaches Assn. (1981), and the Southeastern Pa. High School Coaches Assn. (1986).

He also has been an active participant in Delaware County Special Olympics activities. Barr was inducted into the Marple Newtown Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.

In his vocation, Barr serves as a special education teacher and head boys' soccer coach at Strath Haven High.

Barr earned a bachelor's of science degree in elementary and special education in 1974. he also received a master's of science degree in educational psychology from Widener in 1988.
