Marge Trout, a leader in women's sports, served MU for 37 years as a coach, educator and administrator. She was in the MU forefront in the remarkable growth in girls' and women's athletics, helping to create opportunities for young athletes that weren't available when she was growing up. In her career, she's witnessed the amazing improvement in the skill levels of players and in the availability of scholarship and resources for women athletes. When Trout first started at MU, there were four sports for women, now there are 10. Trout also developed several collegiate academic courses including sports officiating, coaching for sport, camp counseling and novice swimming.

She initially started her career at MU in 1964, teaching health and physical education and then filling several administrative posts prior to accepting the position of director of women's athletics in 1981, where she later retired in 2001.

Trout has served as the first woman president of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, a post she held three times, in addition she was appointed to a variety of positions within the NCAA, including the National Softball Committee, the Council and the Division II Management Council.

Trout's accomplishments have included being named a honorary alumnus by the MU Alumni Association in 1999; Lancaster County Association HPER Outstanding Service Award; the Lock Haven University Alumni Achievement Award and the National Association Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators District Administrator of the Year Award.

Trout resides in Lancaster and is married to Dick Trout. Trout and Dr. Gene Carpenter are both being recognized this Homecoming Weekend with the new facility entitled The Carpenter-Trout Athletic Training Facility, for their demonstrated outstanding service to the University.
