Linda Meade Loomis excelled as a three-sport athlete for Millersville State College in the late '60s and early '70s.

Loomis made her mark in basketball as a member of the 1970-71 Marauder squad that became the first in team history to qualify for post-season competition. That team went on to capture the AIAW regional championship and posted a record 13 victories.

The previous season, Loomis helped pace the Black and Gold to an outstanding 12-1 record--the first time that a Marauder women's cage team had totaled a double-digit win total.

In field hockey, Loomis played for Coach Sandra Peters's first MU squads (1968-70). And she participated in Marauder lacrosse during the program's early years.

In 1971, she received the Elwood J. Finley Award as Millersville's outstanding senior female athlete. She earned a bachelor's of science degree in elementary education and a master's of science in special education from Millersville.

Loomis has gone on to enjoy a successful career as an educator. She served as a fourth grade teacher in the Lansdowne (Pa.) School District from 1971 to 1974. She was a full-time homemaker for 12 years before she returned to the classroom in 1986 as a substitute teacher in the Wilmington (Del.) School District; she served in that capacity for five years.

Currently, she is a special education teacher (with sign language interpretation skills) for the Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington. There, she teaches fifth grade-level children with mental and physical disabilities.

Active in community endeavors, Loomis is a PTA president, serves as treasurer and assigner for the Delaware Field Hockey Umpires Association, is a Pee-Wee T-ball coach for the Wilmington Parks and Recreation Association, and is a certified field hockey and lacrosse official.

Moreover, she holds membership in the American Association of University Women and the Delaware Association of the Deaf, and has served as a coach for the Delaware Special Olympics.

Linda and her husband, Thomas, have three sons: Kirk (23), Christopher (21) and Jeremy (18).
