A record-setting star on the pitch and a key contributor to the track and field team, Kay Liebl was a rare, modern-day two-sport athlete for Millersville University. While piling up gaudy statistics and postseason honors, Liebl directly impacted the historical turnarounds of two programs.

Liebl established new ground with the soccer program, becoming the first Marauder named All-Atlantic Region three times, achieving first team status in 2018 and 2019. Liebl landed All-PSAC honors three times as well. She is one of only two players to lead the program in points for three consecutive seasons. Her 39 career goals and 96 points broke a record that had stood for nearly two decades.

On the track, Liebl qualified for the long jump at the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships a total of six times. A three-time All-PSAC performer in the 4x400-meter relay, Liebl ran the second leg for a school-record time and first-place finish in 2018—a performance that clinched Millersville a PSAC runner-up trophy and its best finish in 22 years. She helped Millersville replicate the runner-up feat in 2019, again running the second leg for the 4x400 championship quartet.

After totaling 12 goals in her first two soccer seasons, Liebl tallied 17 goals and 42 points in her junior season in 2018, coming within one of the school records in both stat categories. Liebl’s offense led the Marauders to a dramatic seven-win improvement, their first PSAC Tournament win in 15 years and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance. Liebl then powered the 2019 Marauders to a 10-0 start, a national ranking, a program-record 15 wins and an NCAA Tournament victory during her stellar senior season. She totaled a team-leading 10 goals and eight assists, helping on the first goal and the game-winner of the 3-1 victory over East Stroudsburg in the NCAA Tournament.

Liebl was a stellar performer in the classroom as well. In addition to earning PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors four times, Liebl was named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America in 2018 and 2019, and she was named Academic All-District 2 by CoSIDA in 2018.

Liebl currently lives in Ephrata, Pa., and works as a registered nurse at Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey. She is also a volunteer coach for the Ephrata High School boys’ varsity soccer team and the winter and spring track and field teams.
