Joe Schneider could do it all. On the hardwood he scored in bunches and harassed opponents like no other player in the storied history of Millersville men's basketball. On the baseball diamond, he was a three-year starter.
Playing his hoops career alongside of fellow Millersville hall of famers Roger Raspen and Glenn Stitzel, Schneider's defense and scoring ability was seen by his teammates as a catalyst to three consecutive NAIA District 19 titles. In his three years with the team, Millersville went a combined 57-21. Schneider scored 1,371 career points, averaging 17.6 points per game—a mark that still ranks sixth in program history. At the other end of the court, Schneider totaled 345 steals for an average of 4.4 per game, which is more than two steals per game than any other player in program history. Schneider still ranks fourth in PSAC history in career steals
As a junior in 1966-67, Schneider totaled 149 steals—a PSAC record to this day. As a senior in 1967-68, Schneider scored over 40 points two times and averaged 23.6 points per game. He was named All-PSAC and received the Frank Ainsworth Memorial Award as the team's MVP at the conclusion of the season.
As part of the program's 100th anniversary celebration, Schneider was voted as one of the top 30 players in Millersville history. Schneider was also inducted to the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
Schneider earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1968 and taught in the Palmyra school district for 35 years. He also coached basketball and baseball.
