Jeff Gamber competed for Millersville’s varsity basketball and baseball teams as an undergraduate and was a member of three NAIA District 19 championship cage squads between 1965 and 1968.
After graduating with a bachelor's of science in education in 1968, he served as an assistant coach to long-time ‘Ville basketball mentor and MU Athletic Hall of Famer Dr. Richard C. DeHart from 1969 to 1977. Gamber helped guide MSC to two NAIA district titles (1974, 1975) and advancement to second round of the ’75 NAIA national tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
Since 1977, Gamber has served with distinction as head men’s basketball coach at York College of Pennsylvania. During his career, he has amassed 331 victories in 26 seasons, including a school-record 21 triumphs in the 2001-02 campaign. Under his direction, the Spartans earned an NCAA Division III tournament berth in 1995, and he has received Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors three times.
Since 1982, Gamber has also served as YCP athletics director with oversight for a 13-sport intercollegiate varsity sports program. Over two decades, York College teams have maintained a 55 percent win ratio and finished in the top three in the Capital Athletic Conference All-Sports Award in nine of 10 years.
Gamber has been a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches since 1970, and received the NABC Outstanding Service Award in 1987. From 1991 to 1994, he was chair of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Committee and also served as a committee member for seven years (1987-94).
A strong advocate of the Coaches vs. Cancer program, Gamber has helped YCP lead all NCAA-III programs in funds raised the last seven years.
