Greg Wright revolutionized the publicity efforts for the Millersville Marauders upon his arrival in 1984 and continued serving the student-athletes and the University by working tirelessly behind the scenes for 22 years.  He left a lasting impact that continues to be seen in Millersville Athletics.

Millersville University Hall of Fame member Rich Frerichs once stated that Wright started sports information at the institution.  His work ethic landed him the nickname of “Mr. Millersville.”  Responsible for the publicity, game day media operations and athletic publications for MU’s diverse intercollegiate athletics programs, Wright received 10 citations for publications and writing excellence from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  His 1985 football game programs were judged third best in the nation among NCAA Division II and NAIA member institutions.

As technology shifted and changed rapidly, Wright adapted, creating and maintaining Millersville’s first athletics website.  He also kept the public informed with scores and updates on the “Marauder Pride” phone hotline during each academic year.

Wright was instrumental in the inception of the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.  For 11 years, he served as an ex-officio member of the HOF committee and was master of ceremonies for the induction dinner each Homecoming.

Wright also served as the secretary, vice president and president of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors and served a three-year term as Division II Representative on the ECAC-SIDA Executive Board.  During his Millersville tenure, he coordinated several postseason award programs at the conference, regional and national levels, including the CoSIDA Academic All-America and Academic All-Region teams; and, he assisted in creating the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award, presented annually by the Manheim Touchdown Club.

In 2004, Wright received the prestigious ECAC-SIDA Irving T. Marsh Award (University Division) for dedication and excellence to collegiate sports information.  He also was nominated for CoSIDA’s Warren Berg Award in 2006.

A graduate of Grove City College (cum laude), Wright and his wife, Vicki, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary next August.  Residents of Lititz, Pa., they are the parents of two daughters — Megan (21), a junior at Philadelphia University; and Jessica (15), a sophomore at Warwick High School.
