A friend to all who knew him, "Gabe" Geiger was a devoted Millersville University alumnus.
A charter member of the MU Athletic Hall of Fame board, Geiger served with distinction from the Hall of Fame's inception in 1995 until his passing in March, 2001 at age 71. He also served on the advisory board of the Marauder Athletic Society. And, his efforts were instrumental in the success of Millersville's first-ever capital campaign, "Commit to Opportunity," during the mid-to-late 1990s.
A native of Harrisburg, Geiger was a halfback for the Millersville football team. He earned lasting fame in 1948 when he sped 90 yards to a touchdown versus Kutztown--a Marauder record that stood for 45 seasons.
After he received a bachelor's of science degree in industrial arts from Millersville in 1952, Geiger served as an educator and coach in the School District of Lancaster for 34 years. He taught industrial arts and coached football and basketball at both Reynolds and Wheatland junior high schools, and also coached golf at McCaskey High School.
As his retirement gift, he built Wheatland Junior High School's trophy case, and also built a school store that was named the "Geiger Counter."
A U.S. Army veteran, "Gabe" served during the Korean War. He was married 46 years to Jeanne Wade Geiger.
