Dr. Lauren Witmer graduated from Millersville with more total victories than any women’s tennis player in school history, and in four years with the program, she led her team to new heights of success.

Including doubles and singles competition, Witmer totaled 198 career victories. She won 90 singles matches, ranking third all-time, and she and Abbey Neff formed the most prolific doubles team in program history. Together they set a school record with 107 doubles victories— 44 more than any other tandem.

Each season of her career, Witmer won a PSAC singles and doubles title. Also, the Marauders won four-straight PSAC Championships, reached the NCAA Tournament round of 16 four times and posted an incredible 89-14-1 dual record.

Witmer arrived on campus for the 1997-98 season and immediately set a then-school record with 22 singles wins. Witmer and the Marauders captured their first of four-straight PSAC Championships that season. Witmer matched her freshman season win total with an impressive 25-3 record as a sophomore. That same year, she and Neff tallied a 27-2 doubles mark, which still stands as Millersville’s best doubles season.

In 1999-2000, Witmer moved into the role of No. 1 player, and she won her third PSAC singles and doubles titles making her just the second Marauder to be named PSAC Athlete of the Year. In helping the team to a third-straight league title, Witmer was named PSAC Tournament MVP for the first time. Witmer and Neff posted a 27-5 doubles mark that season and were ITA Regional Rolex doubles finalists. Witmer was named Millersville University Female Athlete of the Year.

Witmer posted a 24-5 record as a senior and repeated as PSAC Athlete of the Year and PSAC Tournament MVP. She and Neff set a new school record with 31 doubles wins, as well. Witmer was again named Millersville University Female Athlete of the Year.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology from Millersville in 2001, Witmer attended the University of Pennsylvania for a post-baccalaureate program. Witmer graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine that same year. She served as the president of the Student National Medical Association and traveled with groups of doctors to Guatemala on three medical mission trips.
