Chris Telfer Miles was a rare three-sport star, playing field hockey for four seasons, softball for three and tennis for one during her renowned career at Millersville.

Telfer Miles was a three-time All-PSAC selection and three-time Academic All-American in field hockey. She earned her first conference honor as a sophomore in 1984 when she helped her team to a PSAC Championship and an NCAA Division III Runner-Up finish. For her play in the tournament, she was named to the NCAA Division III All-Tournament Team. As a junior, Telfer Miles was recognized as an CFHCA/Penn Monto All-Region First Team pick and an Honorable Mention All-American. She topped that season with another all-region honor as well as a First Team All-America selection as a senior. She graduated as the first Millersville field hockey player to be a three-time All-PSAC honoree.

With her outstanding play, Telfer Miles led the Marauder field hockey squad through one of its most successful stretches. Over a four-year span, the team posted a winning percentage of .633 and captured the only two PSAC titles in program history.

Her athletic ability was evident on the softball field as well. Telfer Miles pitched for the Marauders and still ranks fourth in career ERA at 2.33. She posted 1.47 ERA in the 1984 season and a 1.85 ERA in 1985. Those marks still rank fourth and sixth respectively in the Millersville record books.

Telfer Miles completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1987 and went on to earn a master’s degree in psychology from Penn in 1990. However, her athletic career was not finished. She was a member of the United State Field Hockey National Indoor All-Tournament team from 1991-97 and was the MVP in 1995 and 1996. Twice she was invited to the U.S. team tryouts. For the last three seasons she has worked as a team development consultant at the University of Delaware.

Telfer Miles, a current resident of Pottstown, Pa., is also the founder of Miles Consulting, LLC, which specializes in executive coaching, team development, organization and development, and public speaking.
