Before he won a World Series ring with the Houston Astros, Chas McCormick established himself as the ultimate winner and clutch performer while piling up honors and statistics that no player in PSAC history could match.
McCormick set the PSAC hits record with 306 while also finishing among the all-time conference leaders in runs scored, RBIs, doubles, stolen bases, and walks. Voted the 2017 PSAC East Athlete of the Year, McCormick graduated as the only Marauder named All-PSAC East four times and the only position player named All-Atlantic Region First Team three times. McCormick hit .373 with a .441 on base percentage while playing 223 games. His four-year career resulted in four school records.
A player who always found a way to make a key play, McCormick helped Millersville to three PSAC East titles and four NCAA Tournament berths. His ninth-inning home run and walk-off triple in the 2015 PSAC Semifinals helped Millersville to its first conference championship in 17 years. In 2016, McCormick was voted the NCAA Atlantic Regional's Most Outstanding Player, making a diving catch to secure a win over Seton Hill before going 5-for-8 with two steals in the two clinching victories. That Millersville team went on to finish as the national runner-up, and McCormick more than did his part, hitting .529 with three steals and five runs in the NCAA Championship Tournament.
The model of consistency, McCormick hit .335 or better with a .400 on base percentage in each of his four seasons. He drew 93 while striking out just 85 times. He scored at least 50 runs, drove in at least 47 and stole at least 19 bases in each of his final three seasons. As a junior, McCormick produced a season for the history books, hitting .412 and stealing 33 bases and becoming the first Marauder outfielder in 16 years to be named All-America. In his senior season, McCormick became one of two Marauders named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year, hitting .383 with a career-high nine home runs.
Shortly after graduating with a degree in social work, McCormick was drafted in the 21st round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He quickly climbed through the minor league ranks and debuted in the majors in 2021 and twice played in the World Series. In 2022, he hit two home runs against the New York Yankees in the ALCS. In the World Series, he tallied four hits and made a memorable, leaping catch in the ninth inning of a pivotal game five victory.
