A pioneer in Lancaster County sportscasting, Brian Kintzer was an avid supporter of Millersville athletics for five decades.

The "Voice of the Marauders" for 28 years, Kintzer broadcast live Marauder football and men’s basketball games over WGAL Radio and later, WLPA Radio.

During his career, he broadcast more than 1,000 college and high school basketball games and over 500 football contests. In the late 1980s, Kintzer was cited by Millersville University when he worked his 500th men’s basketball contest. He was also presented the MU Football Alumni Award in 1997 for his contributions to Marauder football.

An innovator, Kintzer took his microphone and equipment all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and was the first sportscaster to initiate live radio broadcasts of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games. His travels took him as far as Edinboro--a far longer journey in the days before interstate highways became a reality in the 1960s and 1970s.

In addition to his lengthy service as a sportscaster, Kintzer was an advertising sales executive for both WGAL and WLPA. He also served as a weekend sportscaster for WGAL-TV Channel 8 for several years (1979-83).

The president emeritus of the Lancaster County Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, a post in he served for 20 years, Kintzer received the 40th George Kirchner Memorial Award in 1990 for his noteworthy contributions to Lancaster County sports. In addition, Kintzer was presented the PSAC/George Heaslip Media Award in 2001 for service and contributions to the Conference.

Of note, Kintzer helped initiate the successful Red Rose Run with former MU cross country and track and field coach Cy Fritz and All-American Jeff Bradley (charter member of the MU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995).

Kintzer was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry.

A Berks County native, Kintzer was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific theater. He and his wife, Barbara, were married married 50 years, and the parents of two children, Brian Jr. and David, and grandparents of three.

By Kintzer passed away Sept. 2, 2003 at age 79.
