Brandon Vernalli placed in a tournament for the first time in his career, capturing second place in the 165-pound weight class at the Wilkes Open on Dec. 28. Vernalli won his first four matches before falling in the championship bout. His wins included two major decisions and a pin in which he needed just 43 seconds.
