Millersville, Pa. - Millersville baseball is the new No. 1-ranked team in the nation according to the Collegiate Baseball Division II Poll, which is voted on by coaches. It is the first time in program history that the Marauders are ranked No. 1.
Millersville became just the third PSAC program to achieve at No. 1 ranking during the regular season, joining the 2007 Kutztown and 1995 Mansfield clubs. Millersville, with a 35-3 record, garnered 480 points for the top spot. Franklin Pierce (31-4) followed in second with Tampa (31-6) and Southern New Hampshire (31-3) tied for third.
Millersville has steadily risen up the polls after starting 18th in the preseason. Millersville climbed in the polls in each of the first six weeks and has sat at No. 3 or No. 2 in the previous five polls.
The team's balance shows in the stats. The Marauders rank fourth nationally in batting average (.352), 15th in team ERA (3.27) and ninth in fielding percentage (.972). The Marauders have 12 games remaining on the regular season slate. After improving to 16-2 in the PSAC East, Millersville became the first team in the league to clinch a PSAC Tournament berth. The Marauders hold a five-game lead over East Stroudsburg and West Chester with eight league games remaining. They are in search of a fourth consecutive PSAC East crown.
