Lock Haven, Pa. – After a season that ended in the PSAC Semifinals and one in which the team won its first match in the PSAC Team Championship tournament for the first time since 2002-03, the women's tennis team landed three All-PSAC awards for the second year in a row, announced Friday.
Melissa Plowman netted an All-PSAC East Women's Tennis Singles Team honor, as well as teaming with Kelsey Waite for an All-PSAC East Doubles Team pick. Head coach Shari Bucklin-Webber took home the PSAC East Coach of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
Plowman is the first three-time PSAC award winner since 2001 graduate Lauren Witmer. Plowman was named to the All-PSAC East Singles Team for the third straight season. The senior finished the year with a 10-11 overall record, 9-10 in duals and 1-1 in tournament play. Plowman stepped up when it mattered most, registering a 4-1 record in conference play. She was one of six players to land on the PSAC East Singles Team and went 1-1 in matches against fellow All-PSAC East Singles Team member Ridhima Borooah.
Millersville's top pairing of Plowman and year-long partner Kelsey Waite were one of three teams to be distinguished with All-PSAC East Doubles Team honors. The duo went 8-14 overall, including 8-13 in duals. But the combo was lethal during conference play, sporting a 5-1 record against PSAC East division opponents. All but one of the pairing's eight wins were by six sets or more, and five of the losses were by three sets or less.
It is the second consecutive All-PSAC East Doubles Team award for Plowman, who joined up with Samantha Prager to take home honors at the end of last year. It was Waite's first All-PSAC honors of her career. The senior was playing with Plowman for her first full year. Plowman and Waited had played just one match together in doubles play prior to the 2012-13 season.
For Bucklin-Webber, it is her second East Coach of the Year distinction in the past two years. Since taking over in 2007-08, she has directed the team to three consecutive seasons of a .500 or better record in conference play after the Marauders finished with a 4-2 record in the PSAC East part of their schedule this season.
The six-player Singles list had two players each from Kutztown and East Stroudsburg and one more player from West Chester. The other Doubles teams came from West Chester and Kutztown. You can view the full list of awards, including from the PSAC West right here.
