Rankings
Millersville, Pa. - Only six teams can play in the NCAA Atlantic Regional and the Millersville baseball team was ranked No. 3 in the initial rankings released Wednesday evening.
The rankings include 40 of Millersville's 41 games, and the Marauders, now 30-12, are one of only three teams in the region with 30 victories. With a 33-11 record, Seton Hill from the WVIAC stands in the top spot, and 38-9 Winston-Salem State from the CIAA ranked second.
Six of the eight ranked teams are from the PSAC and four are from the PSAC Eastern Division. The winners of the PSAC, WVIAC and CIAA tournaments receive automatic berths and three at-large teams are also selected to the field.
Millersville has plenty of opportunity to improve upon its ranking with a four-game series against West Chester this weekend and a four-game series against East Stroudsburg to close the season. The Marauders are also one victory or one Shippensburg loss away from clinching their third consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance. It would be the first time in school history that Millersville reached the postseason three straight years.
Millersville last reached the NCAA regional in 2011. That club hosted in the tournament at nearby Clipper Magazine Stadium and won the tournament with four consecutive victories. The 2013 regional is scheduled for May 16-19 at a site to be determined.
The Marauders host West Chester on Saturday for Military Appreciation Day. Fans receive a free bag of Herr's chips and Kunzler Hot Dogs will be available for just $1. First pitch is 1 p.m.
