Millersville University student-athletes are "Gameday Ready." Each has a story to tell so Millersville Athletics brings you this weekly spotlight.
Kevin Tran is a sophomore from nearby McCaskey High School. He is in his second season with the men's tennis team, playing in all 13 matches this season.
What do you like most about playing tennis?
What I like most about playing tennis is the fitness on and off the court; it really keeps you in shape. Tennis takes a lot of effort and willpower and you have to be mentally, emotionally, and physically strong to win in this game. This game is a lifetime sport and is very entertaining as you grow old, which is why I don't get that tennis doesn't get enough notice.
Your most memorable match at Millersville University?
My most memorable match at Millersville would have to be last fall against Harford College, as well as my freshman season when we made PSAC Tournament. I was up a set and sprained my ankle in the second set. I played through the aching pain and won that match, and we won as a team 6-3. Last season Tyler Lied clinched the final match which qualified us to be the No. 3 seed in PSAC's. We lost to Kutztown 5-4 in an intense match in the semifinals, but placed third at PSAC's when we beat Edinboro 5-4 and that was pretty memorable to me coming in as a freshman.
Why should people come out and support the Marauders?
I think once you're a Marauder, you should give back to the community and one way would be giving great support to the Millersville's sports teams!
Why did you choose to come to Millersville?
There are multiple reasons why I decided to come to Millersville: One,I'm a commuter from Lancaster city, so I save a lot of money. Two, Prior to Millersville, I knew a lot of people transferring to or currently at Millersville, so I would already have a set of friends there. Finally, the tennis team was really nice to me and very helpful with whatever I needed.
How would you describe the tennis team?
Our team definitely has great comradery, as well as all of our sports team. Our coach Shari Webber has brought together a great group of kids and built a family out of us. We're a really outgoing and fun team if you'd get to know us.
