Millersville, Pa. - On the strength of a 23-5 overall record, the Millersville women's basketball team earned its third-straight berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Marauders were seeded sixth in the eight-team Atlantic Region and will take on WVIAC member West Liberty in the opening round.
The Marauders were ranked third in the most recent region rankings, but a PSAC Tournament quarterfinals loss to West Chester coupled with West Liberty's run to the WVIAC Tournament championship game likely caused Millersville's drop in seeding. West Liberty, 22-9 overall, fell to Fairmont State in the WVIAC Championship game, which gave the Falcons the automatic bid from the WVIAC and the No. 8 seed in the region.
With the new, two-site region format, Millersville will travel to California (Pa.). The Marauders, Hilltoppers will play the first game at the site, and California will play seventh-seeded Virginia State on March 12. The winners of the two games will meet in the second round at California on March 13.
No. 1-ranked Gannon (33-0) received the automatic bid from the PSAC by defeating California in Saturday's PSAC Championship game. Gannon will host eighth seeded Fairmont State, fourth-seeded Fayetteville State and fifth-seeded Seton Hill.
The highest remaining seed from the two sites will host the regional final on March 15. Missouri Western State in St. Joseph's, Missouri serves as host to this year's Elite Eight.
This marks Millersville's ninth NCAA Division II Tournament appearance and sixth since 2002. Please check www.millersvilleathletics.com for a complete bracket and preview of the opening round game against West Liberty.
