Millersville, Pa. — Two key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division wins have resulted in the Millersville women's basketball team moving up from No. 25 to No. 23 in the latest USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Marauders currently sit with a 19-4 overall record and have won 12 of their last 13 games, including nine of ten in PSAC East play. Mary Fleig's squad is a win away from its third consecutive 20-win season, and ninth during her 20-year tenure.
Ashley Moyer rallied Millersville to a 70-62 victory at Kutztown last Saturday afternoon in a game that created a bit of separation atop the division standings. The win moved MU two games clear of the second place Golden Bears with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. Moyer scored a career-high 23 points in the game and was 10-of-11 at the foul line.
Moyer once again paced the way with 19 points in last night's 68-41 win over Shippensburg. She was joined in double figures by Mashira Newman (15 points) and Raquel Green (12 points). It was the 11th win in 11 tries for the Marauders at Pucillo Gymnasium this year. If the team is able to beat Cheyney on Wednesday, Mansfield on Saturday, Feb. 27, and a potential PSAC quarterfinal game, it would complete the program's first unbeaten home season since 1983-84.
Millersville is in the national rankings for the second straight week and third week overall this season. The only other PSAC school to join them in the rankings is Gannon, who moved up a spot from No. 3 to No. 2. California (Pa.), which was ranked 23rd a week ago, fell out by virtue of a loss to Clarion last Thursday.
The Marauders are back in action tomorrow night when they host Cheyney at 6 p.m.
