Millersville, Pa. — The Millersville University women's basketball team returned to the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll on Tuesday afternoon after a brief one-week hiatus. The Marauders are one of three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams to be ranked, and hold down the No. 25 spot in this week's poll.
Behind the nation's second-best scoring defense, Millersville (17-4, 7-1 PSAC East) has picked off 10 wins in its last 11 games. Opponents are scoring just 50.6 points per game against the Marauders, who have held their opposition to under 50 points in six of the their last seven games.
The Black and Gold originally entered the poll back on Jan. 26. The squad was ranked 24th, but a 67-58 setback at Cheyney pushed them out of the top 25 the following week.
Gannon (24-0) is the top-ranked PSAC team, claiming the No. 3 spot in the poll. California (Pa.), whom Millersville beat on Jan. 3, is ranked 22nd.
Millersville also moved up to No. 5 in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Rankings, which is the poll that at season's end determines the NCAA Tournament field. The Marauders boast 17 region victories, only one less than Gannon's 18. California (Pa.) (16-5), West Liberty (13-5) and Bowie State (12-5) rank just ahead of Millersville.
Holding a 1.5 game lead in the Eastern Division, the Marauders will look to continue their conference success when they host Shippensburg tomorrow night at Pucillo Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
