Millersville, Pa. - Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Millersville women's basketball team made its first appearance of the season in the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll Tuesday afternoon.
For several weeks, the Marauders (14-3, 4-0 PSAC East) had received votes. But on Tuesday, following a pair of convincing PSAC Eastern Division wins the previous week, Millersville earned a spot in the national rankings at No. 24. Millersville is one of three PSAC teams in the poll, and it owns a victory over No. 20 California (Pa.).
The poll is voted on by a board of coaches from 30 Division II institutions.
Since that win over California, the Marauders have won seven in a row at an average of 16.3 points per game. Millersville's last six wins have all been by double figures.
Unbeaten in the PSAC Eastern Division, the Marauders are in first place and are in search of their third-straight division title and fourth since 2005. Its defense ranks first in the league in scoring defense (50.9 points per game) and field goal percentage defense (34.3 percent).
Millersville looks to protect its national ranking Wednesday at Cheyney. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
