Millersville, Pa. - Millersville basketball alum Charlie Parker was selected in the fifth round by the Reno Bighorns in Friday evening's NBA Development League Draft.
The NBA Development League, also known as the D-League, is entering its fourth season using an NBA affiliation system. Each team in the league has one to three NBA affiliates who are permitted to assign players to and call players up from its D-League affiliate.
The Reno Bighorns are entering their first season as a member of the D-League and are affiliated with the New York Knicks and the Sacramento Kings.
Parker, picked with the 10th pick of the fifth round in the 10-round draft, was one of 10 picks made by each of the league's 16 teams. Parker will now have an opportunity to compete for one of 12 roster spots with the other draft picks and seven returning players.
While at Millersville, Parker was a two-time PSAC East Player of the Year and a four-time All-PSAC East First Team selection. He finished his career with 1,949 points and ranks as the all-time leader in games played (121) and games started (121). He is also second all-time in field goals made (121), second in steals (288), fourth in assists (454), and 15th in rebounds (644).
The Bighorns play their home games in the Reno Events Center, and Parker will play under Jay Humphries, an 11-year NBA veteran and former Phoenix Suns assistant coach.
If Parker makes the roster, his season will open on Saturday, Nov. 29 against Bakersfield.
